Kelechi Amadi-Obi is an accomplished creative photographer and founder of Kelechi Amadi-Obi Studio -a one stop studio for fashion and lifestyle photography. His extensive works has earned him both national and international reputation as one of Nigeria’s iconic photographers who has helped put Nigerian brand photography on the global map. The celebrity photographer is also the publisher of Mania Magazine, one of Nigeria’s best fashion and lifestyle magazine.
A highly talented artist and painter, his years of training as a lawyer and eventual call to bar could not stop him from pursuing his childhood passion for the creative enterprise, even at a time when there was hardly any promise of livelihood through the arts, let alone financial success and fame. Kelechi believed in his dream and by dint of hard work and employing his superior storytelling abilities he soon created De-zulu brand as a way to sell himself and his works. His sacrifices and commitments paid off as his works have since featured in many international exhibitions including Snap Judgment, New Position in contemporary African Photography, International center of photography New York (2006), among others. In 2004, he won the St. Moritz Style Award for Photography.
In 2001, he co-founded Depth of Field (DOF) a collective of Nigerian photographers, artist and painters including the famous TY Bello, Uche James Iroha and Amaize Ojeikere. Their main aim of forming the group was to help each other attain excellence in photography by gathering regularly to encourage each other and critique each other’s’ work. The group proved to be a huge success and would later organize art and photography exhibitions of their works in Nigeria and abroad, leaving numerous accolades in their trail.
Kelechi has worked with numerous celebrities and musicians to create album and music video covers, Magazine cover shoots, landscape, architecture and fashion shows. Among his corporate clients include, Ford Foundation, Guiness Nigeria Plc, MTN Nigeria, PZ Nigeria.
He is a choice speaker at various business platforms across the globe where he mentors budding entrepreneurs on how to continually look beyond their talents and develop abilities to capture the enterprise side of it.
